NORTH SHORE FRUIT TREE PROJECT
“Nourishing Community”
Building stronger, more sustainable communities through fresh fruit
Founded in 2010, the North Shore Fruit Tree Project has been supporting the Lower Mainland for nearly 15 years. With support from local government and the tireless efforts of our amazing volunteers, our team prevents thousands of pounds of fruit from being wasted while supporting numerous local organizations each year.
Our Purpose:
-
Did you know that a tree stops producing fruit once its branches are full? Unfortunately, this means that many trees could be producing more than double their current production, but can't because there they don't have the branch space. The North Shore Fruit Tree Project helps Lower Mainland residents get the most out of their trees by harvesting its stock at the optimal time, allowing more fruit to grow in its place.
-
Nobody likes food waste, and with so many community members who would love some delicious fruit, there is no need! Not only will working with the North Shore Fruit Tree Project mean you'll be helping feed hundreds of members of your community, but it also means you won't have to deal with the mess left behind by your tree's falling fruit!
-
When we say we care about feeding the community, we primarily mean humans! Fruit trees tend to attract unwanted visits from local wildlife, from squirrels and raccoons at best to skunks and bears at worst!
Keeping trees picked prevents unwanted animal encounters, keeping your family and pets safe, and the animals as well!
-
Unfortunately, many people on the North Shore still don’t have consistent access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
The North Shore Fruit Tree Project works with organizations across the Lower Mainland to provide food to those in need, such as food banks and other grass roots organizations that put the fruit to use.
-
We are connecting people through volunteering and other agencies throughout our community.
